Post by: Beastly on August 25, 2011, 07:58:55 PM
ok i have a 97 16 valve we finally finished the motor and wow is this thing a pain and confusing to work on. after we repaired the oil pan, brake lines and coolant leak i took it out for a drive and it wouldnt shift out of first now. idk why it shifted fine before and all the fluid is a great color and full. are these vacuum operated or electronically. thanks any pointers is appreciated

I think the 97 is a computer controller trans, but I may be wrong. 2 or 4 door?  3 or 4 speed? It makes a difference.

Is the trans a 3spd or 4 spd auto?

You have a vacuum line mis-connected more than likely.

I agree with talonx, check your vacume line running from the rear of the intake manifold, just ahead of the throttle body, should be connected to the module on the trans.

2 door=3 speed.

Yep, I agree, check the vacuum modulator connection, both at the engine and at the tranny (behind the pan).
