Title: Adding 12 volt Outlets
Post by: libbypw on August 27, 2011, 09:36:15 PM
I've searched all ways I can think of on the web and on here, have been sidetracked by many neat stories and pictures, and now must ask my question.

We just got a 1987 Samurai tin lid this week and think it's the bee's knees. Suzuki had never been a bleep on my radar but seemed to fit the bill for hauling my dogs to the woods and getting better gas mileage for running around for work.  It is growing on my husband, too   :-\

Reacquainting with manual transmission, the old car smell, and driving a small rig...it's all dandy (and even more so once we finish secondary list of repairs)

We're trying to find the schematic for the fuse-box to figure out how to add a couple 12 volt outlets for my laptop and navi (will worry about radio and emergency break later LOL)  Has anyone any idea where to find a 'blueprint' of what the fuses are and/or has anyone added 12 volt outlets?

I convinced my husband to buy it for me for work.  If I can't keep my laptop charged and find my way for work, might have to soup it up like Lepcur did or make it a Zombie rig   Would prefer doing all of the above.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you!

There is a lot there, kind of overwhelming for my kind who had two ways to fix anything:  1) turning it off and on again  2) walk away and come see how it works later.

Will be sending husband over when he gets home.

I would recommend running a relay for your new power outlet.   We found with the stock wiring we just didn't have enough amperage to run a converter off the stock plug along with a gps and some other devices.   Coming right off the battery fixed that problem.

Ran mine straight off the battery as well

Connect a fuse block like any of these:

to your battery's positive terminal with correct sized wire and run your additional outlets into the cab.
That way each additional device will be fused and you will not lose all should a short occur somewhere.
