New 2004 Aerio engine as a transplant for a Sidekick or Samurai? It is a 2.3 liter 155hp unit so it should haul butt. If it bolts together like the 2.0 liter, we may have a winner!

So, anyone looked into this?

What's an Aerio ???  J/K  I would be
game to try, but somehow they want
me to buy the car before I can take it
apart   :'(

Wild

I hardly see the old Kicks in the Wreckers,
let alone a new Aerio

Is it possible to convert an FF engine to an FR?  I can't even beging to imagine the process of connecting a tranny to that.  :(

Even better would be changing it to a RR setup in the Aireo ;D

As far as taking a FF engine and putting it into a FR setup would be simple if it bolts up to the tranny, that way you're not using all that transaxel garbage from the FF setup.

The 2.0 which is in the older Aerios is the same, with a few minor mods and more Horsey Power, as the Vitara engine... The 1.8 & 2.0 engines have the same belhousing pattern as 1.6 engines... So, bolting stuff together can be accomplished pretty easily. Haven't seen / don't know about the 2.3 engine but I'm assuming that it is a bored and stroked 2.0 block... ?

Good point Eric, a lot of extra horsies with out a lot of weight if it fits, do you know where the distributor sits on that motor would there be a firewall clearance problem, I have a buddy that owns a body shop and has access to bid on any of the wrecked vehicles for the province they all get brought to one spot, would probbably be able to get the whole car for little to nothing, I have him looking for an xl-7 for me, we missed one two weeks ago the whole truck rear end collision $1,500 CDN

The 2.0 and 1.8 are distributorless so there isn't a firewall issue per say. Again, still not sure about the 2.3 engine.

Here's a picture of a 2.0 swap offered by Trail Tough in a Samurai. It gives good dimension and position ideas...

I've seen the Trail Tough Samurai perform and it looks to have good acceleration... 2.3 could only be better, right?
