There is a cylinder shaped gadget that is held onto the throttle body with a stamped steel
bracket with two screws.Has two wires and it plugs into the same harness as the tps.
Can anyone tell what this thing is ?
Still need a map sensor ! ;)
-
Can you hum a few Bars?
-
yeah it goes like this.
-
The TPS wiring usually comes from the same plug as the injector wiring. What year is this, maybe its the Idle Speed Controller (ISC) - a pic would be good.

Sounds like the ISC.
89/90 trackick, right?
-
Thanks.
It is an 89.
And You could be right with the ISC,as idle is irractic and high.
I will try to get pics,I am not very good with that.

A picture is worth .....

Here is a pic... what's it worth?????
Sorry, could not resist...

A couple more... does the part show up in these?
-
I imagine this is what he is talking about.

Thats it !
I am in the parts business, and spent all day looking for one,and can not even find a listing on it.
I friend in the bus. came up with an oe part # 96057985.
This is getting close to screwing up my upcoming 4-wheeling weekend!
Does anyone have one these ics's / icv's [some are calling it an idle control valve] that they are willing to part with.
I am willing to pay cash or barter with some engine parts.
Thanks
Randy

That is the idle up control, when you turn on the lights etc.
and I think it makes the rapid da da da da da noise when it's
active, heard it on my 89' from the very beginning. you don't
need it to run the Trucklet, so if you cant get one, don't let it
ruin your trip

WOW ! You you hit the nail right on the head.Since I first got the Tracker it has "ran" fine, but when you turn the lights on it would make that da da da da noise.FREAKED ME OUT! Once I was able to track down which piece was making this noice,I simply snipped the wires and the noice stopped and the engine stayed running.Seemed to run fine.In fact I have two outings on it since.
I became alarmed when I noticed the goo around the plug on my map sensor had melted and was running out like chocolate syrup.I began to think cutting the icv wires was causing this problem with the map sensor.
If I can run without the icv, that would be great , but then I still have the issue of an idle goes up and down when I first start the engine, and then seems to remain high.
Thanks

The high idle and the up and down, called hunting, is typical also
on these Trucklets, it has to do with the wax pellet cold high idle
system, I just live with it, but there is a fix that involves removing
the pellet system and it just idles low on cold start up. as for the
high hot idle, check your idle stop screws and make sure the throttle
cable is not tight and holding the throttle open
