What seats will fit? I am heading to the Pull a Part in the a.m and just wondering what year and model will fit best. I have heard some people installing Dodge Neon or Mitsubishi seats. Thank you for your help.
-
Neon is the most popular replacement. I use some plastic seats from Summit Racing and have been happy with them.
-
I went to the Pull a Part in Atlanta and got two like new seats from a 2002 Dodge Neon that are Charcoal Gray for 50 bucks.
-
here is a pic of seats
-
I have the dodge neon seats in mine and they are the balls!!! i love em they are so comfy and they are lighter than stock seats better for race trucks like mine but i still dd mine also ahah

They certainly look like they have a lot of padding. :)

Do they recline??? And does it matter what year the Neon is???
-
Got mine out of a 2000 Neon, yes they recline. What a big difference in comfort. >:D
-
I called a local salvage yard and they have some $40 per seat not bad considering i was planning on buying some sport seats from Summit which were really nice but were $320 with shipping.
-
Mine came from a 2001 neon sxt and yes they do recline! They are the best seats go to the junkyard and get em! I recommend to everyone with a Sami! They are veery padded and awesome going down the road. Zack

On iZook.com there are several articles on junk yard seat installs from various donors. You could get some pictures and ideas from there.
Hope that helps, Eric

I have seen several post that the Dodge Neon Seats are a good choice.
My OEM seats are just about Trashed !! And it's getting time to replace the
seat covers again,.....
SO, a few questions;
1st- are they interchange-able between Driver/ Passenger sides?
(just in case you can score 2 better passenger seats?)
2nd- How much modifications are needed? Can you use the stock slider rails?
3rd- Are they available in Vynil/ Leather? as cloth is OK But Is A WATER SOAKER!!

Capt, if you score 2 passenger seats you can use them my buddy did in his Sami. I don't know if u can use the stock seat rails with the neon seats. I used the neon seat rails and made em fit in the Sami by drilling new 5/8" holes. They are recline able and they sit further back so they are better for tall people like me 6'3"! They are only available in cloth only but I run mossy oak seat covers they are cheap and they repel all the water off and I opened all the drain plugs so it all drains out. This is a simple Saturday project that makes a world of difference. I recommend this mod to everyone!

Yes, thanks.

OK, 1st, scored some Charcol Black Neon Seats (Year ????) for $50.00 for the set
How did you guys make them fit ?!!
I know...I know....Cut to SIZE......Trim to FIT !!!!
2nd, checked out the pass. side first, some angle iron or 1" sq. tube for the front brkt
and just drill some holes/washers/bolts for the back...TADA.
3rd, How did you mount the driver's side ?!!!! The front looks like you can drill holes in the
cross support for the brkt tabs, but how did you finish the back? there are 2 fixtures
about 3" square on both sides and the holes are not even close.
ALSO the Neon seat & brkt sits a inch or two higher than the original seat on the
driver's side, I can make the Pass. side brkts taller to match, but I am worried about
head room to the roll bars from the targa bar to the windshield.
ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED.....Before I fire up the torch & Welder !!!

I've used the neon seats like chad posted a pic of. I bolted them right to the stock samurai sliders. IIRC, the front holes in the seats line up with the front holes in the samurai sliders, then I had to use a self tapping screw/bolt to secure the seat to the rear of the slider.
-
The seats I have look like the ones in the previos post;
The slider is welded to the seat back pivot. I do see the front seat attachment bolt, but it only holds the cushion
to the slider assembly. A 2nd bolt thru the side of the pivot brkt holds the back of the cushion in.
MAYBE I have a ODD year seats !! Also they must be from a 4 door as they won't tip forward, But Do Recline.
I didn't see the vehicle they came from as they were taken out by the junk yard's Hired Help. I just asked for
a GOOD SET OF NEON SEATS and MY 1st CHOICE WOULD BE BLACK.
I thought $50.00 for the pair and they did all the work was a deal!!
I have a tentative plan using some 2" angle iron, and a little grinding on the driver's side seat.
Thank's CAPT
-
For my seats I did have to cut the stock neon sliders off the seats. They are just welded on with some little short welds. A cutoff wheel on a grinder makes quick work of cutting the welds.

Skyhiranger,
Thanks, I am just about 1 cup of coffee away from Tearing into this.
Plan is to have the new seats in before noon!! It is the 1st Sunday Off in weeks and the weather

There you go, an article on putting Junkyard Neon seats in a Sammy. You swap the Sammy rails onto the Neon seats.

Thanks Drone637,
Pix added a Great Insight for when I get Home to my own shop.
BUT with working out of our job yard I had to do a temp fix for the drivers side until I get back to Wisconsin next week.
Being a Sunday, I couldn't find a "Line Mechanic" in the Yard to borrow a cutting wheel to get the small weld off the rear
Bracket.........
1st; I tore apart the slider assemblies. Yes litteraly, I had to break the nylon roller carriers, twist the rollers 90 degrees,
knocked out all these pieces and some spare bearing balls in the track to get the sliders out.
2nd; Then I shopped at "The Company Store" and found some 1/4 x 1 1/2 "Kripple Screws" (Self Drilling Sheet Metal Screw)
& washers and ran these thru the original seat slider mounting holes from the Sammy, into the Neon upper slider
channel. Had to bend over the inside Neon seat slider handle pivot brkts so the Sammy sliders were square
3rd; bolted it back into the "Timber Cruiser" and was out "Wheel'n" after lunch !!
Now the drivers side does sit a little high which will be cured after I can cut the rest of the slider off at home.
4th; The pass seat was pretty straight forward. I used a 2x2 1/8 " thick angle iron from the "Cut Off" pile, lined it up with
the seat support of the driver's side, bolted it to the floor, then the front Neon seat brkts to the angle iron. I used
5 fender washers on each rear slider mount(Another "Company store" find; they should lock these trailers up)
to raise the rear seat bracket
to a comfortable seat angle.

Here is some pics
-
Those are some beat up old seats. :)
-
Yes Drone, They where 100,000 miles over due on a "Service Replacement" !!
The Springs were even "Poking Back". Thursday I think I will be able to get at finishing the seats.
Just got back home last night, unpacking today, tomorrow I am going to re-do the rear brakes/bearings & seals
on my 1 ton tow vehicle, no noises yet, but I am scheduled to go to another mountain job Nov. 15th.
It raises questions when you have your vehicle on Jack Stands in the motel parking lot trying to do a "Field Repair".
Again Thanks for the pics/post.
