Title: suspension upgrade ?
Post by: carriacouzuki on September 28, 2011, 02:19:31 PM
I am new to this group and have a few questions regarding a 95 Samuria right hand drive with the stock springs that are providing a real rough ride since all the shocks have to be replaced as well as new spring bushings, new wheel bearings front and rear so I can't really say what the ride was like before. I am using the 205 tire but am not interested in larger tires and if I did upgrade it would bethe 235/75 at the most. What I would like is a softer ride. The roads driven are gravel and asphalt with plenty of potholes and I rarely get to 4th gear and only for a few minutes. Any suggestions before I order these parts would be most welcome.

A 1-inch longer shackle all around will help alot.  This will only lift you 1/2", but it will keep the bumpstomps from engaging all the time.

My '93 (LHD) rode OEM-harsh before I replaced the springs with OME's and the shocks with soft Monroes (from Petroworks). The new leaf springs provided a small lift (~1.5") plus 3/4" HD shackles (+3/8" lift).  I eventually installed 235/75R15's after my 215's aged out.  Although the truck sits a bit higher now, the ride is a lot better for my old, aching back. It will never be "posh".  The additional spring travel really helps smooth out the ride.  I did have to clearance the left front bumper by about 1/4" to clear the new larger tires.  The 235's do fit inside the fender flares and I keep the tire pressures low (~20PSI) to help with ride comfort. At 163K miles, I recently replaced the wheel bearings all-'round. The rears were pretty loose/worn (probably should have done that sooner).  [This may be way more than you want to do, but that's how it worked for me.]
