Title: Shift Solenoid
Post by: hypoxia on October 01, 2011, 12:52:46 PM
1997 Geo Tracker 4 door 4X4 Automatic service engine light code says "Shift Solenoid".  Where is it & where do you find the part?  I've checked NAPA and Autozone, neither one lists it.

I think it's in the transmission, and you have to drop the
pan to get at it

Where is the solenoid located on the transmission, inside the pan?

Just a warning.  I thought that my shift solenoid was bad, but it didn't fix the problem.  I ended up taking it to a shop and having the trans rebuilt.

Thats good to keep in mind.  The service engine light came on & code says shift solenoid but who knows.  Service engine light went out now.
