Title: Reinforce sagging rear door?
Post by: djaychris on October 11, 2011, 06:42:27 PM
So I've noticed that the swing out rear door on my 03 tracker has a noticeable drop to it when I unlatch it and swing it out.  It currently has a 235 mounted to it.  Has anybody come up with a way to reinforce their door hinges to handle the weight of a bigger spare?  I'd love to have a bumper mounted swing away spare tire carrier, but  currently nobody makes on, and the tiregate is crazy expensive.

-Thanks

Short of cross-bracing the door to relieve the flex within the door from the top hinge side to the lower inside with a metal strip or cable... I don't know Dan.  It would be interesting to know if the weakness is in the hinge area or simply across the sheet metal of the door.  There are two hinges holding your door on and two hinges holding my door on (4 door Tracker withy 235 tires) so I'm of the mind that cross bracing AFTER you have removed the tire and squared the  door up would help greatly.
