Did a trans service today on my 95 Tracker auto and discovered one of the pipes that run from the TC lockup solinoid had slipped most of the way out of it's socket. Seems when I replaced the defective solinoid YEARS and maybe 35000 miles ago the fit wasn't good and allowed it to slip out. TC lockup has never worked right but I thought it was because of the big tires. DUH, I pushed the pipe back into the solinoid and secured it with some .020 stainless steel safety wire. Test drive shows it now working correctly, and I now have TC lock at highway speeds again. Simple, stupid, that's what I get for ignoring it. Could have saved a shitload on fuel costs. :P Oh, I put a drain plug in the pan this time. That's primarily why I never looked at it , big mess dropping the pan full of oil.

Now that's an idea .... but if I 'd never removed the pan I wouldn't have discovered the tube pulled out, and the filter needed changing too. Oh, then there's that magnet on the pan to clean. OCD, that's me I guess. :laugh: I'm just happier than a pig in shit it works again! ;D
Wild, you wouldn't happen to know off hand, if it's possible to replace the shifter shaft seal from the outside? shoulda done it with the pan off, but... :P It's only a weep, not a full on leak, yet.

Never replaced mine so I'm not sure, you can try a can
of seal conditioner for the trans, I have used that to make
the seals soften and seal up once again, so long as they
aren't trashed, a weep will usually go away

Just priced the seal: 6 cents from a trans supplier in FLA. I don't think I can get a can of trans goop for that much :laugh: Oh, forgot shipping: 48 cents. FSM says installed from outside so I'm good. I'll drain the pan ( with my new drain plug ) into a clean container, filter it, and pour it back in after I stuff the seal in.

With a price like that and ease of installation there isn't much of a reason
to do it with a bottle of crap instead, unless you just don't want to mess with it

Sorry to bring up and older thread but what did you mean on your first post that the TC never worked right. Explain the never worked right cause mine at highway speeds with 31's, it always unlocks at the slighest incline, hell, even going against the wind is unlocks. Are those the symptons you were having. Same here, I always thaught it was the bigger tires causing it.

That's exactly what mine would do, unlock at the slightest bit of resistence. I would drop the pan and have a look in there, check the solinoid for loose pipes or even a faulty solinoid.
