Title: might be changing my engine
Post by: juggster on May 13, 2004, 06:05:30 AM
well we have found a decent deal on a new engine for my sidekick, i might be swapping the old 1.6litre petrol engine out for a nice 2.2litre diesel toyota engine, should help my consumption problem a bit, whta ya guys think?

I don't have any first hand experience, nor have I read about, the Toyota diesels... Their gas engines are pretty kickass, but I don't think they imported many here in the states...

Another popular engine is the Volkswagen TDI... supposed to be pretty reliable/effecient.

A diesel engine is just what these things need (as I have said in other posts). I would love to see Suzuki import a diesel version. How does the weight of the Toyota engine compare to the original engine? What about gearing? My VW tdi is geared much higher than the Tracker, so it would be screaming on the highway if it ran through the Tracker transmission and diff.

i haven't acctually seen the engine in person, so i don't know the specifics yet, i am out of the country for the next month, so my dad is looking into it. the toyota diesels are ment to be ultra reliable and very good for 4X4s,  it should have arround 130bhp, which is more than enough, considering the old engine has 95bhp
