I'm doing my rear axle bearings on my 88 samurai and was wondering a couple of things. The bearings I'm putting on have a lip on one side does this go towards the Tires or the diff. The ones I took off were different with one not having a lip and I didn't notice what side the lip was on with the other one. When I did my friends last time we pressed the last ones on with a press but I have access to an induction heater and was wondering if I can use that to heat up the bearings and collar then put them on. Will it do any damage to the bearings by heating to inner race? Just looking for some info thanks. ???

Not sure about Sammy bearing fitment as far as the flange goes, but I personally wouldn't heat bearings hot enough to slide them on. Collar maybe but not the bearing. JMO though.

The lip goes towards the tire.
If your old bearings didn't have a lip built into them, then there should be a ring that is seperate from the bearing. Be sure that ring gets removed from the axle, before you press the new bearing with the built-in ring on.
I've heated bearings before. You don't want to get them smoking hot, but a couple hundred degrees shouldn't hurt anything. What I usually use to put the bearings on is a long steel pipe that just fits over the axleshaft and then use a hammer to drive the bearing on.

Is that like using your high lift jack handle and a large Rock when your out on the trail going over rocks and it pushes your axle out the side of your rig? Lol
I now use loc-tite sleeve retainer on them now.

if you havent changed the bearing yet look in the sj410 backing plates the mad will let you pull your axles in the future with out messing with taking the brake line loose
