Title: WEBER CARB CONVERSION
Post by: hondaman8 on October 28, 2011, 09:07:13 PM
DOES THE WEBER CARB CONVERSION ELIMINATE THE VACUUM HOSE NIGHTMARE AND EGR BULL****?  ANYONE DONE THE KATANA MOTORCYLE CARB SETUP?  I AM A MOTORCYCLE MECHANIC AND AM VERY INTERESTED IN THIS.  I HAVE AN 88 TINTOP THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME.  NEW TO SAMURAIS BUT NOT TO OFFROADING.  PREPARING FOR SPOA AND SOME 33'S.  BUT NEED TO RESOLVE CARB ISSUES FIRST.  VERY RARELY IDLES AND STUMBLES TERRIBLY UNDER A LOAD.  SETUP IS STOCK FOR NOW, DOES HAVE A HEADER, ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.  THANKS JOEY

Your First Question.....All  vac lines are eliminated but one from a "purpose port" for the distributor advance on the carb.
You can also S*%#can the ECM, AND ALL THE SENSORS.

I have done the Weber Conv.
Also to enhance its performance, I "Gasket Matched" ground the carb adaptor/base and the intake manifold.
Then I modified the included adaptor for the stock air cleaner so it "Breathed Easier" too.

COOL THANKS FOR THE REPLY.  I FOUND A WEBER CARB SETUP FOR $200 WITH ADAPTER AND FILTER KIT.  I'M STILL GONNA PLAY AROUND WITH THE KATANA CARBS THOUGH I THINK I CAN MAKE AN INTAKE THAT WILL WORK FOR THEM.  I'LL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THAT.  MEANWHILE I MIGHT PICK UP THE WEBER, ITS GOTTA BEAT THIS SPIDERWEB OF VACUUM LINES OVERTAKING MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT.  THANKS JOEY

Made some 2in extended shackels this weekend. Would 5:38 ring and pinion gears be suited for 33in tires?  Spoa kit is on the way, i think with that and the extended shackels i can clear the 33s.

For 33" tires the 5.38 gears will work, but be a little under powered.  If your planning on running trails I would recommend going with a 5.8 or 6.5:1 transfer case instead so you get the low range reduction as well.

You can check out gearing calculators online to see how close you can get back to stock gearing with the larger tires.

With my SPOA and some fender trimming I was able to fit 33" tires with a straight SPOA, but most people go a bit higher.  Depending on your tread you should be fine.

Cool haven't decided on the reduction method yet, but spoa is on the way. I think with spoa  and the extended shackels i can clear the 33s.
