Title: 1.6L 16V 5spd behind a 2.0 motor ?
Post by: airmanwilliams on November 03, 2011, 12:43:04 PM
Hey guys I have a guy interested in my doubler setup that is mated to a 5spd trans that was behind a 1.6L 16v but hes asking if it will bolt up to a 2.0 motor and I have no idea. Can anyone help me out please?

It will bolt up, but you need a flywheel from Trail Tough to allow the clutch to work.  A 1.8l flywheel might also work, but it hasn't been tested yet as far as I know.  You will also need to make new engine mounts, we are running a 2.0L in Project Trouble.

It's all the same.  Just give Trail Tough a call and they will hook you up.  :)

I've got a 1.8L engine bolted to a 1.6 transmission. That may help you??? I believe the 1.8 flywheel parts will bolt to a 2.0 and 2.3 which would make the following statement true... :) There are factory non-modified parts to bolt that combo together you'd just have to do some junk yardin' to find them.

Hope that helps.

Did you ever try putting a starter on and see if it will fit?

Hey Kris - that's a good question... I'd have to say, 'maybe'... It was part of a project I did literally 10 years ago and I don't remember. I do believe I bolted it together and had the started on there because I seem to remember having battery cables on??? but may be mistaken. The engine and tranny combo are still on a pallet in storage after I aborted and sold off the project. So, that's what I know. Do you know something? :)

Sold it... BUT I have a much cooler '82 hardtop (metal dash) that's forsale. It even has the 1.0 liter. Perfect for a .... what? a roadster out of a hard top? Why not start with a soft top? Chop and Drop, yeah I can see that.

He wants to leave the top on, do a rat-rod style setup.  The Sammy is nice because of the flat windows, much easier to cut down.  He has a soft top now, but really wants a hard top.  PM me how much your looking to get.
