Post by: Pebbleworm on November 04, 2011, 02:08:21 AM
Hey all, Im new to the forum and have a simple question, what other model/ make is my Suzuki known as?? Its a 1996, Suzuki Escudo, 5 speed Manual, 3 door, 2litre V6. You would think it easy enough to figure this out, but I cant find all of these specs to fit one model!! It is a Japanese import currently living in Botswana. I am having trouble sourcing a timing belt for this vehicle. Please help!!

I would think they could just go off the engine size.

You may want to call it a Vitara? Other countries they go by that too.

Cool Rig! :)

American (none of which had the 2.0L V-6):
Sidekick
Sidekick Sport
Geo Tracker

Other Countries:
Sun Sport (Canada and Australia I believe)
Vitara (many countries)
Escudo (many countries)

from a catalog perspective it would be known as a SV620-3.
can see it badged vitara, but not escudo ... but as noted above different regions interchanged the badging commonly.

take a peek  here  (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&twu=1&u=http://suzuki-cat.ru/%3F%26action%3Ddetail%26region%3DAR%26modeltitle%3DVitara%26model%3DSV620%26modif%3D03%26gr%3D1%26page%3D24%26pagetitle%3DCAM%2BCHAIN%2B(SV620)&usg=ALkJrhjFzr4svfdPfmQCBZN3CNwReR2Hwg)

hope that helps

Does 'Really Cool' count as a model?

The Escudo is a Japanese market only vehicle - the only place you can get one new is in Japan, although they have been shipped worldwide as used JDM - also - the SV620s were released in 96 - so that would make this one an SV620, rather than an SV620-3 (there is no SV620-1, just SV620, SV620-2 & SV620-3).

The 2.0 V6 engine is known as the H20A engine and as you can see from the link SnoFalls provided, it uses timing chains rather than a belt, - I if I'm not mistaken the same chains are also used on the much more common H25A & H27A used in the 2.5 litre Grand Vitara & 2.7 litre Grand Vitara XL-7 respectively.

Interesting about the "escudo" badge, I had thought that badge went to other places (other than domestic JA).
Makes sense though about the OP saying his was an "import" from JA to AF.

The only reason I supposed a SV620-3 vs the SV620 was the suzuki-cat.ru site didn't show a SV620 (no dash) having the 3-door body style.

It seems you probably have a *real* catalog to also view via year (and probably VIN) versus the "guess-by-golly" that us mortals have to result to to find interchange and/or exploded diagrams with part numbers ...

Hey, Suzuki corp!!!!
If you're listening, how about opening up the database for us enthusiasts!
I'm fine if you want to keep it closed for in-production models, or even closed for models <10 years old ...

Did the op find his part?
I would have just typed the VIN or the ENGINE numbers  into GoogleBing. Hmm Wikipedia figures:)
