What is the Suzuki model that is the Chevy Tracker (newer one, not the sidekick)? Does the V6 Tracker have a steel front diff housing or is it Aluminum?
-
It's called a Vitara now, or a Grand Vitara. If it has an automatic transmission, the diff carrier is aluminum, if it has a V6 and manual transmission, the diff carrier is steel.
-
So it would have to come from a V6 manual, same requirements for the GV diff. Does it have to be the 4 door model, or could I get it out of a 2 door as long as it came with a V6 5speed?
-
Also, there's a visible difference between aluminum and steel housings, correct? Aluminum is bare, and steel is painted black?
-
The tracker never came with a steel front diff. Only the V6 5 speed GV and 5 speed Xl7.
-
Dammit. I was thinking that the Chevy Tracker was more prevalent around here... unfortunately I probably won't find a GV in the junkyards, so I'll have to buy it new :(
-
Even if you find one used they want to sell the whole setup with the gears air 4x4 mechanism ect togather . Cost = $800-1000. No savings there!

Any of the v6 modles have the steel front axle. Doesn't mater what make the truck is.

That's fucking bullshit... Mebbe I'll just go to that pick and pull yard that is reputed to be easy to loot :)
Or not. :(
