Last night I filled up my tank at the gas station. Unfortunately the safety mechanism on the pump and nozzle didn't stop the flow and gas was spit out of the fill tube and down the side of the body. I was standing right there so it didn't do it for long but definitely spit fuel everywhere.
Gas smell was VERY present in the cabin.
Within a half an hour I was able to pour water all over it and washed underneath and behind the body, on the fuel door and whole area in general. I soaked it good.
Now it has a gasoline smell but not as bad...still very noticeable though. Parked it with the windows down, driving it with them all open a little bit at the top, air freshener sitting on the rear seat, etc.
Wondering how I can get rid of the smell? Aren't the fresh air ducts or something back there behind the sides of the bumper fascia?

Yes - there are - I think it's two vents either side.
-
Can you get at them from inside the truck by pulling the interior panels off? Maybe washing that area out?
-
I'm not certain - I have had the interior panels off to get to the wiring - but I wasn't looking for the vents at the time.

AJM, just drive it a couple days with the windows down and the smell should dissipate. No fuel should have entered the passenger compartment. I had a guy at a full service continue to 'top off my truck' after the nozzle clicked. My truck was sitting on a slight incline to the left so he dumped WAY too much fuel in it and on it. My truck ran rough for 30+ miles but the smell eventually left.

There are vents under the bumper cover on the side of the car both sides.
Located by the jack storage if you look in after removing the jack you can see them.
They are on both sides. 2 by the fuel door.

It has dissipated a lot over the last day. Been parking it with the windows open an inch or so and driving it with the windows down. Have an odor absorber thing in it.
Still probably going to open the interior up and see if I can spray some water in there to wash anything out.
