Title: Transfer case shifter noise.
Post by: ajwilson46 on November 14, 2011, 10:17:19 AM
There is a loud rattleting/grinding noise coming from my transfer case shifter. It isnt bad untill you get to 3rd gear and up. If i push the shifter and hold it forward it quiets down. Would this just be my shifter seat?

Check the universal joints on the short shaft between the Tranny and the transmission.

The noise in my T case was a bad needle bearing on the countershaft. Someone in the past had rebuilt it and had the shaft endplay out of whack too.

I popped my T case shifter out today and shoved some rubber bands down in there, put it back together and took a test drive. The noise was greatly reduced. A new shifter seat is in the mail!
