Title: 89 tracker gas smell in cab
Post by: swanson on November 18, 2011, 01:43:53 AM
i just got my 89 tracker today and noticed a gas smell in the cab after driving for a while. it had been sitting for a year or so before i bought it. i don't smell any gas on the outside of the vehicle and i don't see any on the ground. i tried to smell for where it was coming from and it seemed like the driver side behind the front seat. the carpet is dry and i know i have not spilled any gas inside. i checked about an hour after looking for the leak the first time and it just reaked of gas inside. i'm really not too sure how it could only smell like gas inside and not be leaking on the outside. is there any fuel lines that run on the inside of the vehicle?

found out what it was. just cranked it over a few times then looked underneath. it was pouring out gas from the back of the tank. the tank looks pretty rusty so it looks like i will be getting a new tank.

It may be just cracked fuel lines, or return line.  If the fuel is only running out when it is running (or the key is on), the it is in the pressurized system.

yeah i'm pretty sure that's it. the gas is coming from on top  of the tank. going to battle those rusty bolts tomorrow.
