Title: Manual trans rebuild with synchros question
Post by: mrdezyne on November 21, 2011, 12:36:20 PM
Hey, I pulled my onld 1.3 with trans this weekend to make room for my fresh and new 1.6 8v.  Since the trans is out I was going to rebuild it, just one of those "might as well do it while its out" kind of things.  I bought the kit with synchros but the rebuld threads that I have found only have info on replacing the bearings.  I haven't torn into the case yet so the answer might be obvious once I'm in there but,  is changing out the synchros a trick or are there any special tools needed beyond the tools needed to replace the bearings?

Any pics would help, thanks.

Pretty much the same.  I did one a year ago.  My best advise is to get yourself a nice long workbench and put some towels on it and lay out the parts in order of removal.  I've been an auto tech since 1990 and I even lost my place for a couple minutes with the mainshaft disassembly.   I put bearings in a Tracker tranny about 2 years ago and didn't do the synchros....big mistake.

Thanks, thats what I needed to hear.

So there is nothing special about the synchros in the stack up, just replace as they come off the shaft in the same order and orientation and I should be ok.  I'm sure it will become more obvious once I crack into it and see what I'm working on.

Thanks agian.
