Title: should i buy sputtering sidekick
Post by: scotrf on November 23, 2011, 07:29:47 AM
i am looking at a 95 sidekick that spits and sputters. owner says it ran great he let it set for 6months or so. thats when problem started. it has been treated for water in gas. 1.6 16v installed by owner auto trans 4x4. it starts and goes into gear but sputters bad enough you cannot drive it down the road.compression seems good, around 150 with try and hold it in place gauge. i am looking ay it as a donor for my 88.5 sammi. he will not budge off of $700 comments or thoughts appreciated as i am not familiar with the kicks at all.

i realize this could be anything from plug wires to maf sensors and all between. everything works except as described above. opinions from anyone with sidekick knowledge is appreciated. i am mechanically inclined so can do most repairs myself.

Its a mixed bag really...if you are buying for the engine then it may be a bad idea.
How ever if you can get your hand on the Suzuki Field service manual and you are a capable type then go for it.

I think the sidekicks are fairly straight forward for a mechanically minded person. Your intuition is right, it could be anything like plugs, wires, etc.  I love my Seafoam. I use it to clean up rough running motors if the problem is fuel or injector related. It could be a bad ground wire too.  My guess is the problem will take a while to find and the fix will take 30 seconds to execute :) The exception being  a blown head gasket.
