Title: Best Year/Model 4x4 for Woods

I am strongly considering the purchase of a Suzuki 4x4 to use in mountain and desert.  I am able to do upgrades, if needed.  Where should I begin?  What transmission, engine, model should I look for to begin with?  I have found adds for following:

1988 Suzuki Samurai 4x4. $4,900.  Engine overhauled in 2008.  Very clean. Soft top. Looks very good.
1986 Suzuki Samurai 4xs4. $3,400. New paint, bumpers, lights, 0 overheats, 90k miles.  Looks used.
?year Suzuki Smurai 4x4 Rock Crawler. Custom powder coated engine, HD power steer, gears in transfer case for rock crawl,   autometer gauges, 33-12.50-15 General Grabber tires not street legal, needs rear shocks rear drive shaft.

First one looks darn good, to be in very good condition.  What price range should I be in for this?

I know this may be a common thread type....could use some quick help here.

Prices for samurais really varry depending on where you are. 4900 for a clean sami here would be a steal. The first one does sound like the best but i cant really say much without seeing pictures or anything.
