I think they are trigered by a shock impact mercury switch (not attached to bumper in any way). Hagen has airbags and has never set them off when on the trail. I doubt you will be able to unless you hit a tree running 30. He salmed a rock doing the Tubes at the bad lands last year prety hard and they did not blow.

unplug and remove the impact sensor,
this is recommended when working in
the front area of cars just to prevent
accidental inflation.

Just a thought

Don't worry about the airbags. If you hit something hard enough to set it off you'll be glad it did. It takes a good hit to set it off. By unplugging it at the sensor you'll set a code and trigger the light. Just wheel it and wear your seatbelt and you'll have no problems.

Probably, but my girlfriend are only 4'11" tall(20 years old) and air bags are not safe for tiny people...

Unless they've changed something it shouldn't be a problem. Tell your girlfriend to always wear her seatbelt and slide the seat all the way back. If they did go off on the trail she'd be ok but may need clean undies. :)

the only air bags u need to be concerned with are the ones that are set off when tipping... so a slow flop could turn into a real headache

I have a 96 Geo Tracker.  When my daughter goes wheeling with me and sits in the front I disable the air bags.

Under the steering colum is a small yellow box on the end of some wires (all yellow parts are air bag related).  Open the box and the air bag fuse is in there.  Pull it out and you will diable the air bags.

The light will come on, but when you replace it, it will go off.

Note:  Do this only with the key off.  By thery the air bag could go off if the key is on.
