Title: Sami boneyard seat swap ideas?
Post by: zuki1018 on December 18, 2011, 08:28:26 AM
Wondering what pick-n-pull seats to look out for today.  I dont mind fabrication for fitment.

My drivers seat was welded by someone so I cannot adjust it.  The other day the passenger seat back broke and wont stay in a fixed position.. so I guess its that time!

I would look for leather or vinyl seats.... Cloth ends up looking pretty shabby if yours is exposed to the elements much..  ;)

Ended up with a set from a pt cruiser. They have inside arm rests and passenger side folds flat forward. Gonna be a tight fit but I think we can make em work.

Also snagged the 60 side of the 60/40 rears and hardware. They fold flat and are removable like the stock sami one. I will add pic soon.

Theres a link to my build diary.  I installed the seats and uploaded some pics.  So far we are pretty happy but no road testing yet.

They look nice and comfortable. For me they would be stained in no time though. I think in total I went almost the full 5 months of summer with only a Bikini Top and a Car Cover when it rained this summer.

Look forward to seeing how that rear seat fits in for you.

Nice Job & Write Up...  ;)

I did the Neon Seat Swap.
A HEADS UP GET THE 2 DOOR NEON SEATS !!! My Bad, I didn't specify at the Bone Yard :sleepy:, got a 4 door set. They won't tip forward enough to get gear out the side doors >:(
The pass. side I used the Neon sliders to get more room and made a new front cross bracket out of a piece of 2x2x 1/8 angle Iron.  Mount'd it on the same line as the front support on the Drivers side. The pass. rear Mount; I used a piece of 1" square tube and some fender washers to match the height to the drivers side.  ALL THIS was so my girlfriends LONG LEGS (which are adjustable to MY NECK size) could stretch in.
The Driver's side I did the info posted on this site. I think "Drone" sent me  DIY info.
They Ride great, you sit just a hair taller, but this could just the difference from my very well beat up old OEM seats they replaced.
Nothings finer that a "All Day" Junk Yard Safari......

Thanks.  I know... we will have them stained up nicely in no time.  I just didn't want pleather due to the sandy seat feeling. Our hardtop/doors do not seal worth a crap.  So top on or off, mud (then sand) is always flicking in somewhere.
What I would like to do is paint them.  Anyone dealt with fabric/upholstry paint before?  ...seems like it would leave the seat rough.  We have some black fabric dye.  I was debating pulling the covers off and soaking them instead. I dunno... I am just happy i have an adjustable seat now and the arm rests are great.
