Title: Best Clutch Upgrade
Post by: segermech on December 23, 2011, 12:55:25 PM
What is the best clutch upgrade for the sammy?

1.  Centerforce Dual Friction
2. Centerforce 30% calmini
3. Petroworks Heavy Duty

What is the best value.  I have a stock 1.3 w/ 31" tires and I noticed that the clutch slips surprising easy when going up hills.  It's brand new but a cheapy.  Or is my flywheel too smooth?  Should you rouch it up before putting in a new clutch?

It is essential to have the flywheel resurfaced when changing out the clutch.

What are you running for gearing?  It shouldn't be slipping during hill climbs...

^^ what they said.

A 31' tire is about 18% oversize, so you should be looking to get an additional 18%, or so, reduction somewhere in the drive train.  Two ways to get it are: 4.30:1 R&P gears (two sets, F&R) , or either of the two available 4.9:1 Tc's gearsets, which have about that much (16/18%) additional reduction in high range. That particular R&P ratio is kinda hard to find.  A stock 1.3L should not need a heavy duty clutch, if the flywheel is properly resurfaced (both inner and outer).
