akapeewee:
Alas, we are not psychics.
Your post does not tell us exactly (or even generally) what Suzuki vehicle that you have.
Your post only tells us of your goal in very broad terms - you want to crawl using "about" 6.8-1 gears.
The first thing you need to do is read and learn more about whatever Suzuki 4x4 truck that you own, then start asking questions here to fill in the gaps.
Knowledge is the best tool to use to reach your goal.
I would suggest visiting Ack's FAQ (http://www.acksafaq.com (http://www.acksafaq.com)). There is an easily-searchable database of over 800 links to helpful information on the internet - much of it found right here at Zukikrawlers.com!
Ack's FAQ also has two useful gearing calculators (one designed specifically for the Samurai) that can help you create the gearing/tire setup most suited for your vehicle.
I hope that this helps!

6.5 gears or 6.4 gears are about 6.8.
maybe some more info about if you are making a strickly creep and crawl rig or is it also going to need to run down the road.
maybe some more info on other mods done too.
Alot of info and a great wealth of knowledge on the forum here.... just need more specific questions and giving the members more info will only help you out.

What size tires are you trying to run? Does it currently have a lift on it? What size tire does it currently have? Once we have some more info we can start tossing suggestions your way. :)
-
prolly like a 2 inch light suspension lift ]] biggest tires will be 33 12x50s
its the 1.8l it needs a little help i think
32'' gumbo mudders

my 88 sam had now 8:1 tcase gears and 5.12 front and rear. and iam pushing 37 12.5 on double beadlocks. and every things o out on my odometer. all stock again. getting 19.998 mpg thats so cool.
-
what kind of tcase is in yours?
-
He is using a stock Samurai Transfercase with an 8:1 gear set. The high range is the same as the 6.5:1 kit, so you can go with either one.
For 33" tires with stock axles I would recommend the 6.5:1. But fitting them with only 2" of lift is going to be a bit of a chore.
-
Yeah a lot of hacking to get 33 s under there with only 2 in of lift, n where can u source 8.1 gear reduc kits now didn't think they were avail anymore n how well does your case hold up to them
-
I am pretty sure you can't buy new 8:1s anymore. And I rarely see any used sets for sale.
Your best bet is to go with 6.5s in the tcase and regear the axles too (which is the proper way to do it anyway). There are several options for regearing the axles.....using gears from a tracker/sidekick you can regear the stock samurai axles (3.73 gears) to 4.30, 4.62, 4.88, 5.12, 5.38, 5.62. I also believe you can get 4.57 and 5.38 gears through the aftermarket. It also seems like there is another ratio that is available through the aftermarket, but I can't remember what it is.

In an aftermarket gear all that is avail. is 4:57 5:38... The 5:83 we cant get anymore
