Title: Worst case scenario
Post by: brace on May 04, 2004, 01:32:21 AM
I can buy an 87 hardtop for $250.  It won't go into gear.
It has 59k original miles and it starts up and runs just fine and there's no rust on it.  The transfer case isn't locked up either.  I just want to know some of the probable reasons and cures.

Does the shifter wobble so bad it actually spins in a semi-circle? If so, the shift pin in the tower could be so worn out that it won't go into gear. To verify, hold the shifter so that it doesn't rotate and try to shift.

Good Luck, -Eric

Don't know much about Sammys but it sounds like an awesome deal to me, I'd nab it!

I'm going on second hand info about the tranny.  I will let you know if it is the pin.  I do plan on doing the nabbing tonight.

You can get a hell of a lot more than that out of it, just selling it for spare parts!  Only 59K miles???

It's not even broken in yet!

I concure.  But it is a long way from being as prestigous as a SJ410.
