Title: Misfire,Intermittent
Post by: Wilnailu on January 22, 2012, 01:46:31 PM
I have a 1993 sidekick 1.6 16v with 280k miles.ever since Ive owned it has had a intermittent miss in it.I had tried everything mechanical and ignition related electrical to no avail.A friend of mine who is a certified master mech. Suggested replacing the alternator and believe it or not that corrected the problem, something about the rectifier not conv. The output to dc current completely.Never heard of it but it cured the problem, has not missed a beat in two weeks.anybody know about this?  Oh yeah, before it would shock the crap out of me every time I shut it off and closed the door

Yep I had serious misfires with my 98' sidekick's stock alternator when I got it, swapped it out for a GM delco 12Si 78 amp alt and have not had issue one. The stock alternator has to work hard to cover just the normal electrical demand, add in some tunes, headlights, heater etc and it overheats the poor regulator eventually.

Interesting.
So was the shock just like a static electricity type of shock?
Did you have the old alternator tested, to see if it tested bad?

I think that the shock that you get closing the door would be from a seat cover with polyester in it or the type of sole on your shoes and type of sock that you wear.

I would like to know if this works for you.  Where to find a GM Delco 12Si 78 amp?.

Am interested in the Delco Remy alternator swap into your Suzuki.  I have a 94 Kick 1.6 16V and would like to do this swap.  Can you give more info on what it takes, ie single wire vs 3 wire, or just the hook up to the Delco.  How does the mount work?  Any info on the Si 78 amp or other swap would be greatly appreciated.  THX
