Title: 31-32" tire owners on sidekicks/trackers ????
Post by: ROPADOPA on January 25, 2012, 08:05:46 PM
What suspension lifts are you running?

I'm looking to run 235 85 16 they measure almost 32" tall , I will be running a 16x7 wheel with 4" of back spacing or 0 offsett.
Been looking at the budget 2 spacer 2 body lift kits and wonder if they will clear. At the same time i plan on replacing struts/shocks and possibly springs. i have noticed that once i tally up the budget lifts then ad struts /shocks and springs i could be close to teh 4.5 kt with OME stuff that rocky road offers.

This would be for a hardtop 2 door 90 tracker/ and pictures would be great.

I am running ProComp 31" MT's with the AE 4.5" lift and can go to 33's before having to do any massaging of the fender wells because of the stretch of this particular lift kit.

32x11.5 BFG AT KO's with homemade lift, about 4". Small body lift 1.5", widened front and rotated rear axle, no fender cutting everything fits. The Altered Ego Kit seems to be the way to go, pricy but good.

I'm running Ford ranger front springs in the front with spacers....2 3/4 I think. Jeep LJ in front springs in the rear. Home built diff and a-arm drop brackets (4") and a-arm moved forward 1". 1" longer arms for the back not put on yet! I will replace the stock Ford ranger springs with lifted James duff or similar, soon. 31" Hankook dynapro M/T's on 15x7 black D's.

All of the 235x85R16's that I have seen are load range E.  My understanding is they will give a harsh ride because our trucks aren't heavy enough to make them squish.

I'm considering 265x75R16 (32x10.5) because they are available in a few tires as load range C (Goodyear Duratrac, Yokohama Geolandar MT, Cooper Discoverer ST).

I am running the procomp MTR's(range"C") at 16psi on the road and they are wearing perfectly and ride nicely, the E load tires will run with even less air pressure, single digits and they will have the proper sidewall flex and tread wear with the light weight Sidekicks. The only issue with such low weights, even on the road, is the bead staying put. My cousin runs bead cement and he hasnt popped a bead,,,,yet,,,LOL

I run my BFG AT's at 23 front 18 rear, ride great and wear nicely, like not at all ! Never popped a bead either.

great thread,  I thought about the load rating being an E, Im looking at the Nexen MT as i get them pretty cheap and being cheap they are a little flimsy that may work to my advantage. Also plan on using it mostly off road with driving roads too and from. Defiantly will be airing down.

Bentparts you seem to be running the closest height tire that im looking to run so far. Any pictures from the side or closer up, also what size wheel and offset are you running?

So far it seems that a cheap spacer 2" and body lift 2" is not going to get me what i need as it seems that 5+ inches are needed to clear my tire selection.

keep em coming

My rims are 15x 7 3.5 " backspace. Everything fits but I have done the front widening and moved the control arms forward about 1.5 ", and in the rear the axle overotation. Both give the wheels more room in the wells. These mods are also know as the " Hagen " mods and can be found here in the archives. I'll get some better pics later today for you. Just an FYI, to get 32 11.5's under it without cutting anything the Hagen mods are a must. I also have about 4" suspension lift ( homemade) and 2" body lift.

We have been checking clearances on Drone637's newest Tracker, to see what it can be fitted with.  We have moved his ball joint forward 1 1/2" and out 3/4" mostly to provide fender clearance in the back of wheel well.  It appears that the biggest tire to fit without fender trimming and/or a body lift would be 31".  Now the backspacing of wheels really changes the dynamics of where the tire goes, and obviously narrow tires will create less clearance problems.  The higher you raise the vehicle, the more space you have to work with, but unless you lower bump stops to prevent compression 31" (or maybe a short 32") is the largest to not be able to hit body material even with moving the ball joint forward 1 1/2", WITHOUT a body lift, trimming wheel wells, or lowering bump stops to limit upward wheel travel.  This is what will clear and not rub anytime.
We were attempting to see just what it would take to fit 33" tires without body lift or trimming fenders.  He also did not want to have to drop the diff., to keep from CV issues by spacing the Struts out 2" or more.
With all the work I have done on my Tracker, I am going to have to trim the wheel wells for clearance of 33X12.5X15's, WITHOUT a body lift.  It appears that 32 and bigger tires require a body lift if you do not want to trim wheel wells.

Thanks Andy, since that photo was taken I've replaced the clapped out Calmini springs and spacers in the front with 16" 550lb FOA coils, and FOA 150Lb. 16" in the rear. It added another 1.5 " of lift to the suspension for a total of 4+.

He has just started and is attempting minimum for lift, which will mean some fender trimming (about the same as mine with many modifications).  Check out his build thread http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/project-white-rabbit/ (http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/project-white-rabbit/).  Should be photo's up after this next weekend.

Hey BRD HNTR If im folowing along correctly your claiming that you are trying to fit a 33" tire buy just using a suspension lift in the 2.5  range and then using the lengthening mods and thats it?  I just want to make sure i was following along. thanks again

Yes that is correct.
It will require trimming the back and front corners of front wheel wells, and we will slide the rear end back 1" (but it would work in its present position).  If you do not want to trim wheel wells, then a body lift will be required for tires above a short 32.  He is going to lower the bump stops 1" to keep from hitting the center of wheel wells.

I drive a samurai so I couldn't tell you much. But I've found a sidekick I'm interested in. Look for the thread on here on the explorer/ranger springs with spacers up front and jeep springs out back, I think he's running 31"s now. Also as far as those nexen tires go, my buddy runs em on an Xterra and they are really good tires for the price but an Xterra is like two sidekicks. As far as psi goes I run 30tonight in my tires on my samurai and it wears good, like a lot of guys have said, it doesn't really wear. But as far as lift look for that thread from what I gather he spent like 200 bucks on his lift by getting his springs from the u pull it.
