i am putting a 2" jeff lift kit on my vitara soon. i have 16" rims on and wonder shat would be the max size tire to put on. i also want a size witch i can find the most of off road tire tread availlable (hard with 16")
and for rim fitment, i have found out that the "regular" vitara with 16" has different brake pads and caliper than those on the "grand "vitara. the "grand"vitara has a slightly longer and narrower brake pads, mine is shorter and wider. i beleve any "regular" vitara can be fitted with 15" rims without rubbing beacause of this difference.please correct me if im wrong.
-
That would depend on what you consider a "regular" Vitara - they came with 1.6, 2.0 & 2.5 engines - as far as I know, 15" rims will only fit on a 1.6, you need 16' rims for the 2.0 & 2.5 Vitaras.
-
if i could do it all over again i'd stick with the 16's that my trucklette originally came with.
in my opinion 215/85R16's are the perfect tire for a lifted Vitara....
-
hum... i will get a test fit soon. i forgot about the engine size. i am concidering 15" as i would like very agressive treads such as interco tires...tsl,thornbirds,boggers...

I only have Jeff's 2" lift on my 2003 4 Door vitara, with the 2.0 and auto tranny. I currently have 245/75R16 BFG/ATs on the stock 16" wheels.
Minor rub on full turns, and did some minor trimming inside the wheel well.
-
I needed 1" wheel spacers to run 15" ford truck rims. They give a wider stance which allow you to run 31's with aggressive tread by reducing frame rub greatly. If you want bigger tires do a body lift otherwise I would say don't push it ulnless you want to do a lot of fender trimming. I used to have 225/75/r16 with moderate AT treads and they still rubbed on the fenders. If you want to run big mudders why not do the bodylift? 31" mudders are perfect on my rig they ride great and perform great. I think alot of people myself included do the susp. lift and 29's and decide soon after that they want a bodylift and 31's. In fact i was told on this forum that would happen but did I listen? Nooooo....
Now I hardly need 4x4 for most stuff I do. And it's the difference between someone asking "hey do you have a little lift on that thing or something?" or saying "hey cool lifted vitara, i bet that thing kicks ass off road!" >:D

With stock 4.88 gears? A 245/75/16 = 30.5" tire. That's alot of tire for stock gearing isn't it?
I only ask because I have the same vehicle. (03 Tracker 4 door, 2.0, auto) I stepped up to a 215/75/15 which is only a 27.7" tire, and I lost a bit of power and gas milage. I'd like to run 225/75/15 (28.3"), but I'm afraid it will be more than I can bare in terms of sluggishness. Am I right or is it "not that bad"?

I 100% agree that even that small step was very noticeable. I went from the stock 205/75/15 to 215/75/15 (in an all terrain tire) and lost power and mileage. I'd estimate 2mpg and my shift points (5-speed) are now 5mph higher than what I used to do in the same situations. I'm glad i'm not the only one that noticed. I have jeff's 2" kit and 4.62 gears. The 215's are as high as I'm going on mine.

i beleve the ford rims dosent fit without cuting the middle hole a bit bigger... am i right???

I'm with diftoyota, if you have a pic of that setup I'd like to see it.
I would love to add a jeff's spacer lift, but am afraid it will look dumb with only 215 tires. I would also love to run 235/75/15's but there's no way it's happening on stock gearing. I thought I could make a compromise and run the lift with 225/75's, but I'm afraid to try that too.
Need more power! >:D

im putting on the 235/75/15 on mine i think. i know its big for the motor but its gona be used as a mud rig. it will be in 4 low most of the time anyways, i will install front locking hubs so i can drive it 2wd low range :)

Here's a couple of pics, before and after... Lower gearing would be nice, but I'd still do it again... In the spring I think I'll be doing a 2" body lift and a winch.

looking good!! that's the look im after. how does she manage in low range? can she drive on idle in first gear without stalling? enough power on low range to get out of a hole?

No they are 15x8

Older Ford rims have the right size hole, I believe it's the pre-'95 ones. Actualy my rims were off a Baracuda but the guy I got them off had them on a ford truck at the time. Stock ford rims give a nice amount of backspacing to our rigs.

LMAO! Max! When are we going fishing buddy? And when will your tracker be back on the road??
-
hahaha, check ur message box on the fishing sight! As for the truck... hopefully it will be back on the road at the end of this week, possibly early next week. getting them to look at the rear diff too... maybe they can figure out whats wrong with it, third time's a charm, right? lol

She's auto, so no stalling in first, lol... I've had it in some pretty rocky trails so far, but no mud holes or anything, power seemed pretty adequate for low range, but you will notice some loss to be honest. not enough for me to want to go back to a smaller tire though.

good stuff to know. my oil pan blew yesterday. it had surface rust. after a good rub in the snow it have removed a shunk of rust and now i need to change the oil pan. i though no biggy but after looking underneath its a pain in the ass for sure, the rack and pinion has to come off and as well as the front diff. thats what the dealer told me to do anyways so i can slide the oil pan in.
