Title: Would you build this vehicle?
Post by: keith on May 01, 2004, 02:12:09 PM
I have put enough money into getting my Tracker running good that I will probably keep it.  What I am wondering though is would you guys put a lift and bigger tires on my Tracker if it were yours.  The body is rough.  Front and rear fenders have bondo on them.  The fender well under the battery is rusted out in about a 6x9 circle.  The frame appears solid.  For pics of it see http://www.wideopenwest.com/~keithert/lk_geneva.html.

Well. For 150 bucks  95XL7  has a 2.5 inch Pro-comp lift for sale.
Body damage is no Problem (don't aworry about dents ;D)
In other words.  Why not?
Might as well use it and get your $s worth ;D

Something already predented is even more of a reason to wheel it. Not worrying about scratches or denting it will make a more fun time.

i suppose if i were surrounded by hooked up Jeep's and then looked at my poor ugly duckling bone stock blue tracker, i'd feel like wanting something better too.  But fact is i'd take your rusty little truck in a heartbeat.  it's rust and bondo mean one thing to me, a no worry true off-road machine.

Hell yes keep it, buy 95XL7's $150 lift or just a new set of 235/75/15 off road tires and a set of RRO coil spacers for now...or just say screw it and get a full on lift.  your top looks good and as long ast the engine and tranny are soild...it's a great rig.  may not be a pretty jeep.  but it's still a very worth while off-roader...just not in stock form.  the require a few basic mods to be trail worthy.  For me i find a better set of tires not only set-off a better look for side/tracks, but is usually the overall best off-road mod you can make on a zuki.  Then later you'll want better suspension and whatnot...there is tons of potential in that truck.

No matter what you get for it, it can always be
moved to another Track/Kick when this one is
retired from wheeling   ;)

excellent point Wild.  and that equals a good thing because they are cheap and plenteful to replace.  So at least if this one dies you know you can get another one pretty easy and therefore all the money invested in this rig isn't wasted.

Hell, I'm sure your rust damage is fairly minimal compared to mine. My fenders and quarterpanels were all rusted out, and I "fixed" them using metal duct tape and bond. The passenger's side rocker panel was completely gone, and I recreated it with fiberglass and some tubing (see pics on my site... link's in sig). Moral of the story? Your kick's probably gonna get a bunch of body damage on the trail... why subject a nice, straight, rust-free body to that sort of abuse? Kind of a waste, IMO.

My top was open but the windows were closed so the inside didn't get too dirty.

Here, i took a second to do a (slightly sloppy) photoshop of how just nicer tires can improve the look and in the case of these trucks the performance i put my BFG A/T's on your truck.

they look pretty cool  :)

and to see better how just the look slightly improves a picture of my car (the picture i took the tires from) my tracker looked lame with those 205's you have on yours right now...but everyone so-far digs the 235's and says the tracker looks more serious...i still think it needs a lift but i do like it.

I didn't tackle that hill.  A lot of guys with trucks more built than mine were having problems with it because it is bumpy at the top.  They were loosing traction at the top.

hey pick u up a set of black mags with a 3" backspace ($120), 3" calmini body lift ($139), a set of 1" coil spacers from Rock-road ($76), and a set of tiers of your choice ($400-$600). i run this set up and used to 33" Swampers. and a tracker on 33's can go almost any where just add a lock-rite and a winch and those HEEPS wont be able to keep up.
