Title: New Guy Please Help

I am building a '59 Austin-Healey Bugeye roadster. The motor and trans is out of an '87 Sammy, carburated. I am starting from scratch with the wiring, and want to know if I can just hook 12 volts to the coil and run, or do I need a stinking computer? Do I need a ballast resistor? Is anyone running their Samurai like this?

Had a 60 Sprite long time ago. Fun little car, plastic windows and all. Not sure on the Sammy of that vintage. I'm sure with a carb though you can probably make it run without a computer. Somebody who knows more about the Sammy's should chimne in though.

Is this a PREVIOUS Bastard-ation?
Why would someone want to devalue a GREAT COLLECTOR Sports Car?!!!!!!!
I know that the original 4 popper would do better than a Sammy 1.3L
Any way the answer is, a 1.3 carb'd engine will not need the ECU if you go to a Webber 2 BBl
or the Harley sidedraft Carb'd intake set-up.

Hey thanks for the responses, I am using the Zuks adaptor to run the Harley carb, and I really want to keep the car simple, but the streetrodder in me can not leave anything stock......The 1.3 sammy motor/transmission fits in the car better than the original cast iron 43 horse 948cc, sets back 5 inches from the original, has the overdrive, and is mucho lighter. The '59-'61 Bugeyes were and still are heavily modified for road course racing, my street machine mods are tame by comparison. Pretty cheap and common little rides, too, I have seen project cars sell for $500.00  Most, including mine, need major rust repair.

The Healey tractor engines were not made for high rpm or even sustained moderate rpm, which is why the motors failed in the land of long roads.  With the rpm's that the Suzuki's are capable of sustaining, it looks like a good transplant.  I understand Capt's point, but off roaders are like hot rodders, what can I use to make it better.  I stuck a Volvo B16 motor in a 59 Fiat 1200, neither classics at the time, but it did scream compared to the Fiat motor that couldn't hold a set of bearings for more than a month.

I have a spair 1.3 if you find yourself needing parts... Sounds like a slick project.  I have a Porsche 914 that I'm swapping over to a 2.5L Subaru boxer motor.  Like you said, lighter, twice the HP, and a torque curve like a table.  I LOVE swap projects like this.  I know you said you would like to keep it simple but a huge leap forward would be the 1.6l 8V motor from a Sidekick or Tracker in the future.  Still simple but TBI and 85-90 HP... Same size and weight too!
