does anyone knows if we have one or not? in the fram air filter book said i have one, i have removed the glove box and see nothing, now i am thinking they are not available in a regular vitara? my vitara is a 2002 suzuki vitara with a 2.0L 5spd. no air condition. i was looking for that as i have barly any heat. i will probably change the thermostat as i am very determined that is my problem. just wanted to get rid of that cabin filter if it has one.

There is one and it is behind the glove box.
Remove the glove box and find the recirculate intake door (move the lever between recirculate & vent and you'll see the door moving in front of you) - just to the left of that (assuming a LHD vehicle) you'll see a black plastic strip no more than an inch wide - it has clips on the top & bottom that hold it in place - unclip that and remove it and you'll find the cabin filter behind it.
You'll probably find it is choked with foam rubber - the rubber falls off of the intake door and gets trapped by the filter.
Something to consider - if you're getting airflow through the vents, the lack of heat most likely is not caused by a clogged cabin filter - you may have a "mixer door" problem or an engine running cooler than it should.
Coolant should always be flowing through the heater core as there is no "shut off" valve - what Suzuki does is control how much air flows through the core using a "mixer door".

i have very little wind coming out of my system so i know there is a problem there.the vent motor sounds very aggressively so that is good also, the thermostat is working fine as the needle stays at half wen running, but it may be not allowing the system to heat up enough. i do have a little bit of heat but not enough for sure. it defogs the windows a bit and thats all. and i do always use the outside vent as it always unfog the windows.
i had 2 cars before witch my problem was caused by the thermostat,my dad is a 30year + mechanic and solves that like nothing, the car engine temperature needle was at half and still i was getting barly any heat, my dad suggested me to change the thermostat and i dint listen (17 year old at the time and knew everything lol) i have change the heater core, coolant and still had little heat, then i have changed the thermostat and problem was solved, the thermostat wasent allowing coolant to flow enough to bring hot coolant to the heater core to heat up the car. as in winter the thermostat dosent let the coolant flow as much as its very cold outside
but this is my first car/truck with a air cabin filter, i figure the filter is plugged badly and stop the air of flowing, i want to remove it completely anyways as i will be in the woods most of the time and it will get clogged again quickly. also the previous owner got it stuck under a water hole after the front 4x4 air motor have failed and all the water went inside the truck, i have removed the carpet as it was ruin anyways.

Cabin filters are on the 2nd gen Trackers also. I opened the door on one of mine and it had no filter in it. Most people never thought about their Zuki truck even having a cabin air filter. I didn't replace mine. I'm not into "filtered air" except when working around chemicals or painting.
-
I figure you could remove the cover, remove the filter and then put the cover back - it should work fine without the filter in place.
-
Mine had no filter because someone had removed it...and broken the door that covers it.
Upon putting the door back on the air flow immediately improved since I was no longer air conditioning the glove box. I purchased a filter for it from Rock-Auto and noticed no difference in air flow.
I will say that a bunch of the listings for our vehicles are wrong. I had to do a bunch of digging to figure out which actually fit mine and several of the "big name" filter makers had incorrect or broadly general and incorrect listings.
-
i dont know if you guys have air condition in your trucks, i dont have air condition, and by the look of it i dont have that door at all.
-
Should be behind the glove box once you drop it down below the normal "open" position.

That piece of plastic has a clip at the top & bottom ends - remove it and you'll find the cabin filter behind it - and yes - it does extend past the dash cross member, and it can be removed without removing the cross member.
-
mine dosent look like that at all. i'll take a picture to show lol
-
Thanks for posting this, I also have the same symptoms. Really sucks when it's -30C outside! I will have to investigate this filter because if I have one it is definately clogged
-
ok guy's here is my picture of inside my glove box. i really dont think it has an opening for a air filter
-
I had to replace the blower motor in my last car and when I did I didn't get the nut that holds the fan on the motor tight enough the fan came off made lots of noise and I lost all blower output. Also try dropping the glove box with the blower motor running and feel around under the dash for air leaks from the blower just a few thoughts.

no issue there so far i think its either a blocked heater core or a bad thermostat.

Older thread but I thought I'd give an update....
I removed both filters alltogether...they were caked with leafs, feathers, mouse guts, dirt, you name it. I now have easily 2 or 3 times the air coming out of the vents. I may install new ones for the summer when it's dusty but I think I will remove them for the winter months. Much warmer now :)
-
Old thread - but I was prompted to check the parts manual - the filters are shown as a part of the a/c evaporator housing, so my guess is no a/c means no cabin filter.
-
Does anyone have a good part number for cabin air filter? My 2003 tracker has a spot for one, but it’s missing. I love having filtered air.
-
2003 was a "change over" year, at least for Suzuki, and the cabin filters went from vertical to horizontal - what's the orientation of your filter spot?
You can look up the part number on the Purolator (or choose your favourite brand) web site - if your spot is vertical, go with a 1999 or 2000 model, if your spot is horizontal, go with a 2004 or 2005
-
Mine looks like this. So, guessing it’s horizontal? There wasn’t one in there and judging from the original owner lady I got it from I’d guess there never was a filter there.
Fordem sir thank you for all your help lately. I can tell you’re “the guy” on this forum that puts a lot of energy out for no reason other than helpfulness.
On my property there’s a beer with your name on it should you ever be thirsty and in the hood.
Oh also, are there options for filtering types? My Mercedes has options for activated charcoal or pollen you can choose depending on your particular particulates.
-
That looks like the early "vertical" filter - the arrowed plastic "cover" has latches at top and bottom, unclip them and remove it, the filter is in two halves that have to be removed & replaced one by one - Suzuki only offered a plain pleated paper, there may be different aftermarket options.
I'll take you up on that beer, if I ever get to your corner of the world...
-
Perfect thanks. Yes I believe it’s the early design after watching some YouTube’s. Ordered one off eBay and we will hope for the best.
Beer we have here, they call Portland the new Munich and we rival any place on earth for award winning beer flavors of all styles. It’s common here to have two breweries on the same block, and many pubs have over 100 beers on tap. I blame the rain. We stay inside and drink all winter.
