Title: Torque on Rear Pinion nut?

I just finished rebuilding my rear diff in my 88 Sammi and am trying to find out what the torque spec is for the pinion nut. I know it has to crush the crush sleeve but I don't want to over tighten it. All the bearings are new and so is the crush sleeve ect.. Any help would be appreciated.

Tighten it until it has zero endplay. Just did mine a few weeks ago. I had to use a 3/4 impact gun. The crush sleeve is hard to get to start colapsing but once it starts it's not that bad. Keep tighting a little then feeling the play and keep doing it untill all tha play is gone.

I believe the FSM says tighten it until it takes 11 inch pounds to rotate the pinion shaft.  It does take lots of torque (probably more than 150 ft/lbs) just to get crush sleeve to start crushing.  The pinion nut is not set by direct torque.  Go to the FSM or

We just did a diff this weekend, took a lot of force.  So I looked it up in the FSM, it lists 250-400lbs force may be required to crush the sleeve.  Fun times!
