Title: Oil Pressure Testing .... Results
Post by: wildgoody on May 01, 2004, 01:47:32 PM
Well I spent most of the day finding parts,
didn't really get it all done, so I hooked up
a Mech oil PSI guage to the main oil galley,
here are the sorry results.

PSI at cold start  30
PSI at 2 Min running 15
PSI after 2 Min in gear (auto) 10
PSI with RPM increased to 3000   60
Pegged the guage at 5000 RPM to like 90

I didn't even let it warm to Opperating Temp
as I think I would faint at the sight of 2 PSI
idling hot   :P

I think the pump is weak, I don't know how
else to explain these erratic PSI readings.

Thoughts from the gallery ???  any input could
be helpfull at this time to figure out the problem.

Thanks
Wild

Hmmm...I'd pull the pan and see if some of the turbo remnants are blocking the pickup. Sorry but it don't sound good. :(

Don't the zuk pumps have a relief valve and spring? With your turbo setup making all that heat your oil is warmer than the average zuk. The result could be a stressed spring or a piece of dirt in the relief valve. My rule of thumb is at operating temp 10psi per 1000rpm.

Ya Mine too, 10/1000 RPM is a good rule of thumb,
I need to get the oil hot and see if the PSI goes up
when hot.

The turbo still feels smooth, but it's got a bad bearing,
I don't know what went into the pan, but there isn't
much that could block the pickup, but some grit could have
damaged the pump, this seems the most likely to me

Still checking it out
