Title: Coil suspension swa
Post by: chriscouto on February 23, 2012, 05:56:51 PM
I am in the process of swapping my 88 tin top sami to coils in the front. I bought some brackets from ballistic fab and after alot of welding cutting and modifying im wondering wheres the best place to find 5.5 " id x 10" springs with 175lbs rate. I have called a few places with no luck. Any info would be great

That is a really fat spring, are you sue it is a 5.5 ID spring?  The largest I can find is a 4.5 and most kits only use a 3".

You should find what you are looking for here http://www.poske.com/parts/Hyperco/index.htm?showall=y (http://www.poske.com/parts/Hyperco/index.htm?showall=y)
Also look at Bronco & Ford Van coils.  With a little research you can find them in the Salvage yards.
Another spot http://www.best-deal.com/search/landing/query/front+coil+springs/s/google/koid/8770389797/gkaid/100832032/adid/4026820792/gkyid/137203158/?query=front+coil+springs&gclid=CITqwa30tq4CFbAHRQodFBBbnw (http://www.best-deal.com/search/landing/query/front+coil+springs/s/google/koid/8770389797/gkaid/100832032/adid/4026820792/gkyid/137203158/?query=front+coil+springs&gclid=CITqwa30tq4CFbAHRQodFBBbnw)

Also i found an interesting VW site.  I do not know the length of VW springs but a tape measure would tell me.  This has the # rating and color chart so you could tell at a glance what the rating is.

Thanks for the informative question.
