Title: hummmmmm anybody have this happen?
Post by: biglance on February 27, 2012, 11:36:50 AM
I'm trying to work out some issues with my new to me samurai. I was able to rebuild the engine and get it running, but when i pull the key out of the ignition it will run for a few seconds without the key kinda strange right? well now im on a little ride and go through a little water not up the the carb but still enough to hit the fan and wash the engine compartment. its still running fine I shut it off in the middle of nowhere and it wont restart. I noticed that my fan which is hooked up to the ignition wont come on and I have no spark. the engine cranks the carb dumps gas but no spark? the fan works when I run a direct wire to it so im thinking ignition switch because the fuses are good the lights work but no spark? please help Thanks Lance

I would definately try the ignition switch first if it came down to buying parts. But let it dry and make sure everything is connected before spending any money.

well I'm going with ignition switch problem. I have power at the switch but not to the fuse box. I jumped a larger white wire on the back of the fuse panel o the ignition coil wire and was able to get power to it. I did not try to start it because I'm a little worried about melting wires. Does anybody have a source for the ignition switch as I don't need the tumbler its working just fine. Thanks Lance

Check your "Fuseable Link" and Master Fuse in engine compartment,
Might have "Popped" while wet.

O.K. so I replaced the switch 60$ ouch that hurt but it does run again so money well spent. where is the main fuse in the engine compartment? I have an 87 I think it might only have the fuse box under the dash. Thanks Lance
