Title: WTB winch
Post by: 87Suzi on March 06, 2012, 09:59:59 AM
I'm looking for a cheap winch, my sami only weighs 2220lbs with me and my tools in it, so I figure a 3000-4000lb winch would suffice. Keep in mind I'm not Donald Trump.

I am looking at the winches on ebay right now. Nothing wrong with name brand except cost really. I have good luck with them so far but know the limitations too.

You can get a 4k winch with synthetic rope for under $200, with fairlead and mount shipped!

Heck, you can get a 3.5k at HF for under $100 easy too.

Sure you would have to fab the mount a little.

just my .02.

I would look for a 5-6k winch, you will be pulling heeps out far more often than self-rescueing yourself....LOL

Harbor Freight has a very nice 6K winch for fairly cheap

Take it for what's it worth.........I know a lot of harbor freight winch owners that go through the winches.  They just don't last......you get what you pay for....they are cheap for a reason.  If you do decide to get a harbor freight winch, get the extended warrenty....you will need it. :-X

Hope it doesn't break at the worst possible time

You need at a minimum 2x gross vehicle weight in a winch.....IE your Zuke ways aprox 2500 lbs . You need a 5000lb winch...
 Otherwise your just waisting money......Boxcar...
