hey stu..id kinda steer away from telling people to gut the cat of a street drivin car..since the cat really does help to cut down on the pollution a car puts out

im not a eco nazi or anything both of my dads cars probably get 9-12mpg..but they do still have cats when drivin on the street

The CC is a possibility, but I'd think you'd see diminished performance too if the CC was clogged.

What condition are the normal tune-up items in?

air filter
fuel filter
pcv valve
plugs
wires
cap & rotor

i don't have a cat in it. I have just changed my sparking plugs, oil is still ok, air filter is ok, just changed my diff oil, i need to check the filters, but i think those are ok too. I am gonna check my sparks now, to see if i am running it too rich, and the i might have the injector system looked over

is it a diy job?
Also what is the purpose of the O2 sensor?

Yes, it's easy, takes a special socket
sometimes, old one screws out and
new one screws it, it's in the exhaust
system. When the O2 sensor gets hot
it tells the computer if the fuel mixture
is too rich, too lean or just right, so it just
helps the computer to know what is needed
for fuel. With out it working the computer is
blind, so it goes into a closed loop which
is a rough aprox amount of fuel so your
engine will run, but not deliver the good
fuel mileage it could if it could go to open
loop and adjust the mixture.
