I saw this on another sami so I gave it a try. Not sure how commen it is but its cool. I noticed a bit more power. I got the filter for 20 at autozone and filled any gaps with rtv4.

It would be better to run the pipe out of the engine compartment for the cold air. Also you won't be fording into too deep of water with this set up.

I had this:

Mainly because the cone filter gather alot of dust / dirt / Mud with everyday driving and some off roading. I also had deep water concerns because some of the mud holes that we drop into make the headlights disappear which is too close for my comfort zone with the cone filter.
Depending on your driving style this may or may not be of concern or important to you. ;)
The latter is an airbox out of a SideKick with a Fram Airhog filter inside of it. the cold air inlet runs from this box to the radiator grill area, It is a perforated aluminum hose that will allow moisture to drain out of it.

I used this on mine after rebuilding my 1.3 with a 1.6 head .030 pistons a 272 cam new webber and tri-y header. I put a few miles on it with the stock breather and then changed, it did make a little difference but mine's mainly an on road vehicle. I wanted to get it closer to the grill to get fresh air but put it behind the headlight to keep from getting water in it through the grill. (http://)
