I'm not sure which Webber carb it is, just bought Floyd (The Sammi) last month and none of those papers or information came with it.
Some of my vacuum hoses are worn out, one is missing on a hole that blows out...idles fine with an occasional sputter/chug.
I got 33mpg on my last tank of 87 octane...
It was tuned at 4000+ft, as that is where he lived, and I live at Sea Level...
Do I need to touch this thing at all? Am I going to cause harm to my car by leaving it how it is?
33mpg...216mi on 6.5gal of gas...it makes me very happy!
I suppose that it is running on the lean side?
I want the highest MPG that I can get...for me it's 80% MPG & 20% Off Road Ability.
Any advice, comments, or suggestions?

the first thing is pull the plugs and see how it is burning , then see if one of your friends has a air/ fuel gauge and check the mixture ratio . if the plugs are white get larger fuel jets .

Are you sure you didn't get that mpg traveling downhill from that 4000ft level to sea level  --just kidding (because I'm jealous :-[ ) -- I wouldn't change much...that's fantastic mileage

My Sami looks just like yours, Tamarack, lol.
I get 27-33mpg lately, I don't think I've gotten below 28mpg since I changed my u-joints. With bad u-joints I was getting about 25-27mpg.
I wish someone knew something about these carbs.

They are good carbs for the most part and I've run them for years. They only really stumble up steep hills, but that can be remedied with various methods. They have received an undeserved bad rep from that IMHO. Well, that and people who don't want to learn about how carbs work. :(
You really need to take off the air horn assy to see the primary/secondary and air correction jets sizes. Also, the idle and secondary feed jets.

Do you think it would hurt to keep running it lean? I like the high MPG and do not need the extra power.
-
I don't think you are running too lean. Do you have a miss or ping? Is the engine running hot?
How about pulling a spark plug and posting the picture on here?
-
It was tuned to run for performance at 4000ft, wouldnt that mean that I'm running lean at sea level? It's not totally smooth idle...it has a little miss every RPM cycle I guess.
I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.
thank you very much for engaging me with this.

Yes, it will be running a little on the lean side.
You can adjust the idle mixture fairly easily. Look at the links I posted.

If you have to do some jetting and you cant get them local go to cbperformance.com and ask for Maryanne and she will take care of ya. You will have to tell her what you need for jets , its a VW perfornance shop.

I think the jetting for those small engines will be similiar though. FYI, I also own an old-school 1956 VW Beetle.
-
Yes . Running it lean will hurt the engine. (Burn valves and pistons)
Gees guys, stop beating around the bush......Boxcar....

I'd love to see it...post a pic if you can.
