Title: Moab - Easter Jeep 2012
Post by: Drone637 on March 26, 2012, 11:50:17 AM
Well, it looks like we may just make it down there in one form or another for Easter Jeep Safari.  Is anyone else going to be down in the area next week?  We should have a basic itinerary up tomorrow or Wednesday once we have a final vehicle list.

I'll be there! However, I'll likely be working most of the time. I'm coming in Saturday afternoon, leaving Wednesday. Short trip this year.

WARN will have a booth at the Arena, and for those that'd like to meet her, Jessi Combs will be in our booth from 1-3 on Thursday and 11-1 on Friday.

I should be rolling in late Saturday/early Sunday if all goes well and rolling out the following Saturday.  BRD HNTR and MoonZuki52 will probably be there sooner.  I'll send you a PM and we can meet up at some point if you get free.  :)

If it wasn't a 2 day, 1,000+ mile drive for me to get there, I'd be there.  Just too long (and expensive) of a drive.  Also a little dismayed in how the event has become primarily about newer Jeeps.  Oh well....  Represent the Suzukis!

The Moab weather will be somewhat decent next week, sunny low 40s to mid/high 60s.  This week is actually considerably warmer with highs in the upper 70s and 80s.  8)

Pictures are online.  Some of them anyway.

So far we have Amasa Back/Cliffhanger and Hell's Revenge.  Videos will come later along with shots from other cameras.  Had snow on day 1 and sun ever since.

Sweet! I wasn't able to sneak away much during my time at EJS. I did get to wheel Poison Spider and Seven Mile Rim, though (in a Jeep). Man, I'd love to get my Zuk out there next year!

We will probably be back.  I did stop by the Warn booth on Thursday, Jessi Combs is a cutie.  Bring her back next year.  :D  I even got a poster signed!  Some friends even ordered a bumper and winch.  Going through the vendor area I really liked those Daystar foam insert bump stops.  A pair or two of those will probably find their way onto the White Rabbit for testing.  The Cab-Over Jeep was pretty sweet, but someone had a Jeep pick-up conversion where they kept half the rear doors and they opened to a storage compartment.  That was a nice setup.

We ended up breaking Moonzuki's SJ on Thursday, so no trails were run that day.  But BRD HNTR and I went out and did the first 30 miles of White Rim, next year that trail is a must do.  I should have a rack for carrying spare fuel by then.

Additional pictures and video should be on-line tonight if all goes well.  Or I may just kick back and play World of Tanks.  :D

How much/what kind of lift does the white Sidekick have?

That is BRD HNTR's rig, running modified front a-arms, XL7 OME springs up front and Jeep TJ springs in back.  4" lift, about, and 33x12.5" ProComp tires.  He has a full build thread, it will probably be green again before to long as Mom likes it to match the pickup.  Fun fact, the Go-Pro has no idea what to make of the white hood.  :D

Yes, I remember the white one from last year when it was all green.  It did quite well then too.

Which one were you driving this year?  No longer the 4-door from the video that you posted.  What are the specs on this rig?  It seemed like it performed quite well from the video.   8)  ARB in the rear?

After watching that video, it makes me want to build up the automatic 4wd 2dr Sidekick that I have for parts.  The Sidekicks definitely do well in Moab, probably better than the Samurais.  The longer wheelbase, lower COG, and wider track of the Sidekick make it a lot better suited to those steep, slickrock grades.

The 4-door was someone else that was running with Haggen, I saw it when towing a rig back from Hells Revenge but didn't get to meet up with them this year.

Mine is actually the White Rabbit project over in the build threads.  Yes, it is somewhat confusing that the White Rabbit is not white, but you can blame my mom.  She named it. :)

http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/project-white-rabbit/ (http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/build-diaries-how-to-diy/project-white-rabbit/)

Spool in the back, ARB up front.  We figure if you bought everything brand new from a completely stock rig you would have around 3k into the build.  ARB, 5.12 gears, tires, wheels, armor, springs, diff rebuild kits.  As it is we had about 400 in random parts.  Everything else we had, stole from my old SJ or Project Trouble.

Sorry, I thought you were running a 4-door last year, but that was Goodyz.  I really like the White Rabbit build and it inspires me to build something similar.

We didn't get as many vids of our rigs on the rocks as we expected.  My photographer didn't watch/film when I was on the tough stuff (wives???) and there wasn't much time to get out and film the others before they were through the obstacles.  While phones take good photo's and vids, they tend to hide how extreme some of the obstacles are (or I just wasn't at the right angle).  This shows how steep Hells Gate down chute started, then it has two other steeper sections.

I only saw a few other Zuks in town, mostly Sammi's.

ANDY:  Even if you can't get your Zuk out next year, perhaps we can schedule a day on the trails.

When things don't go wrong (break, or worse), it's awesome out there.  I had a good time even when things broke (cause it wasn't mine?), and we still managed some really good trails.
And don't forget to look at the scenery, its good too.  That's one good thing about the Jeeps, you have time to look at the scenery while waiting for them (cause at least one in every group isn't going to scratch their new rig).

Just browsing Moab photo's and I found this 360 Degree Sperical Panorama for muscleman arch.  http://www.utah3d.net/panoramas_5/musselman.html (http://www.utah3d.net/panoramas_5/musselman.html)  It is amazing, just click abd move your mouse on it.
And here is Drone637b (oh, it was me)on same Arch (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Oe0QPkRW_rk/T8iBq_NjKiI/AAAAAAAAAH4/RRfxKVTPHl4/s912/IMGP2703.JPG)
