Title: Tranfer case rebuild... it is cracked?
Post by: zuki1018 on April 08, 2012, 05:23:01 PM

Heres a close up:

I dont see the same cracks on the outside but there is definitely fractures/cracks visible.  I probably should be looking for a new case right?

TIA

Not necessarily. I saw some similar " cracking" in on the inside of my t case and I believe they are just from the casting process. I don't think these are die cast, more like sand cast, and those are just normal flaws. Gotta say though, there's a few more in yours than mine. Wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have seen what looks like cracks too. I think they are normal like was said. There is no pressure in the case so unless they are leaking out the cracks, I wouldn't worry.

I know exactly what you have seen, I have seen them many times as well. I was told it is a spot where the liquid aluminum didnt flow uniformily going into the mold.

But I would double check just to make sure, there seems to be alot of them radially from that pocket.

Those "veins" are completely normal.  Every zuk tcase I have had apart has had them.
