Title: Durability question
Post by: ffhammerhand on April 13, 2012, 10:17:05 PM
Hello all,

Still pretty new to the samurai world, I have a 86 JX and I have taken it out to the desert a few times and I feel like I'm over revving  the motor when I'm in the dunes ! When I conquer the big sand hills I'm in 4 low and running it pretty hard for just a few seconds. Are these motors high rev engines ??? Any feed back would be great ! Just curiouse on how durable these little engines are !

well. seeing that highways speeds are up at 4-5000 rpm.

ive been out wheeling with alot of suzuki guys and ya. they do like revs. some of the climbs it was 4 low first gear at 5500rpm going up.

A lot of people run the 1.3s hard and don't have any issues with them.  The redline on the engine is 6500RPM.  Personally, I like to keep mine under 4K.

If original, the engine is now 26 years old and has the corresponding mileage & wear. I wouldn't rev it past 4000 rpm often or push it too hard.

I usually don't  shift until over  5000 to 6000 rpm.Driving up the mountain in 3rd gear, I'm always over 5000.
