Post by: DC2GiB on April 21, 2012, 04:58:12 AM
well basically I'm new to 4x4 as i race my car in circuits. bought a samurai last week very cheap and has the gear lever stuck in neutral (not the actual 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th) but the 4h,4l,2wd.

i am hoping to find out what the problem is and at most how much am i looking at to repair.

thanks

Get a new brass shift sheet from ZOR and change it. Cost is a few bucks. This is a common problem. The stock fiber one disenigrates over time. Easy to put in too. Just remove the shift stick from inside of the vehicle. Clean out any old debris. pry the shift rods unstuck and drop in the new sheet. reinstall the shifter and go.

Here's an article from the "gear guide" section that may help.

In the meantime, you can take your shifter out and use a screw driver to select a range to move your Samurai until you get a new bushing.

Good luck, Eric
