Title: Having project thoughts again... :/
Post by: 99Trackerconv on April 24, 2012, 07:15:16 PM
I went to a dyno day this weekend and after seeing all the high HP cars and trucks I want to make one of my own. Only I want to be different like always.

So I started looking for a 99+ 4dr for less then $3000. I really don't care about the miles but would really like to get a manual and 2wd to make the swap less complicated. I thought about getting a 2dr but I thought if I end up with 3-400 hp it would probably be doing wheelies when I launched.

What kinds of motor swaps do you think would be best? Turbo 4cyl, V8? Also does anyone know if the trans bolts to any other brands engine?

Look at Hagan's ZR3 projet http://www.zukiworld.com/month_110110/feature_project-zr3-the-way-a-tracker-should-have-been-built.htm (http://www.zukiworld.com/month_110110/feature_project-zr3-the-way-a-tracker-should-have-been-built.htm)
Not 3-400 hp (only 185hp), but if you go with that much you will have to replace entire drive train.
The automatics are Asian Warner, used at some point in most vehicles.  Change the bellhousing, torque converter and input shaft to adapt to different motors (if they used one).
Blending the wiring and computers without throwing codes becomes a major task.  I haven't used them, but probably going to a separate stand alone engine management system like Megasquirt would be easier.

Yeah I've though about doing the 2.7 swap. But I don't know if it could handle a turbo, cause that is what I would want to do to it.

I would love to do a LS1/6spd swap. I know it would be alot of work but WOW what a ride that would be.

At the dyno day I seen so many 350-400hp Camaros and Mustangs but the best one was a 420hp SRT4 Neon!
If they can can get that much out of a turbo 2.4 4cyl wonder if I could turbo a 2.0 Tracker and get 250/300hp?

Oh there was also a turbo'ed D16 Honda Civic that made 300hp

How hard is it to remove the frame from the body? Is there a lot of wireing connecting both parts?

Looking into buying a 01 Chevy 4dr 5spd 4x4 w/ 125k miles they are asking $2200 do you think thats too much?
Also seen 02 Suzuki w/ 200+k for $1500 but was auto and needed a new engine.... Looked brand new thought.
