Title: Does 89 1.6 8 valve have an ecu

I just bought an 89 1.6 8 valve distro to do some mods.  It hasn't been delivered yet.  Does this distro need an ecu to work or is it like the samurai distro and has a coil?  If it has no coil what will it take to get it working?

Yes, an 89 sidekick has an ECM.
The 89 and 90 1.6 sidekicks use the "old school" round type coils, like the carbed samurais use.

The answer may change depending on where you are - the 8valve 1.6 here were all carburetted - no ECU.

The 89/90 Sidekick does use an ECU but it doesn't control the ignition.
