Title: Lock right in a 2-pin carrier?
Post by: MongooseVRX on May 03, 2012, 07:50:33 AM
I am putting a lock right in my new steel front end, but the original diff has the 2 pin carrier. It doesn't seem like it'll work right. Do I need a different carrier, perhaps a junkyard rear(4-pin)?

That would be the easiest.  When you say 2-pin, do you mean a single pin through the center?  Or does it have 3 pins, one in the center and two half-pins on both sides?

1 pin, two spider gears. The lockright came with three pins, 1 long and 2 short. I think I will call powertrax too, see if they have any advice.

I believe that Trailtough sells a modified carrier for this.

Or you could run a Samurai 3rd.

Or you could run a Samurai 3rd.

Do you think a 10-bolt(trackick pre '93) rear would fit up front?

No, it is physically larger.  Get a 4-pin Samurai carrier or the modified carrier from Trail Tough.

With the samurai carrier, if you are going to 5.13 gears you have to get metal cylinders "cans" that will hold the short side pins in.  The lower gears that samurai's normally run are physically taller and will hold the side pins in place, not so with 5.13's.  ZW venders carry these "cans".
