My calmini header is on its way, and I spoke to the guys at the muffler shop today, they deal with strictly magnaflow and mentioned that the straight through design of the magnaflow would make me lose my low end torque = (take off speed)
I've been checking out the dynomax Super Turbo's online, and flowmasters. Have you guys used any of these mufflers? I'm looking for a deep mellow tone, no loud nascar stuff.
Awaiting your recommendations

low end torque can be made with a steped exhaust system. if you started with like 2 feet of 2in then you could go to 2/14 or 2 1/2 and a free flow muffler and you'd be good with low end.

The new truck exhaust systems have a 2 stage stepped
system, big out of the heads, reduced thru the Cat and
Muff, then large out from there, the big off the head is
supposed to work like an expansion chamber on a dirt
bike, then small for torque, then big out for good looks.
But this is on a V8 GMC, might not carry over to
a 4 cylinder as well.

I've used the DynoMax Super Turbo on an AMC V8 and I loved the way it sounded! I've had a few friends use the Flowmaster with Suzuki 4 cyls, they sound pretty good.

Which series flowmaster did they use?

Not sure which series, but one was a 3 chamber and the other was a 4 chamber. The 3 chamber sounded better. They were both the welded version.
As far as the back pressure thing is concerned, I have a 1.6 8v with a header with 2 1/2" exhaust with no adverse low end effects. The beautiful thing about how low geared zukis is how they respond to freeflowing exhaust. I've had 2" with the same motor, it works better with the 2 1/2" on the freeway especially.

I'm running a flowmaster with 2 1/4" pipe. I have the same set up on my Kick 89 8V and my 98 X-90 16V. I noticed nothing but gaines from the exhaust. The 16V realy responded with better mileage and power commuteing 100 miles to wirk every day. My 8V also gained power with little or no torque loss. The guys at the fuffler shop told me the same thing but I had already spoken to other people that had done the same thing and they loved it. The flow master is also a great off-road muffler due to it's strong design. They are almost indestructable. My last one lasted me 7-8 years of off road abuse.
I think I am going to try out a spintech muffler this time and see how good they are. I dont know any one using one yet and they are suppost to be small, strong and perform well.

I just put the Calmini hi-perf muffler & exhaust pipe on my 2-door (I already had the header). It gave me a noticable increase in power.
But before I put it on, I fired up the rig with just the Cat, and no muffler. Then I asked myself "why do I NEED a muffler?" It just wasn't loud at all. Some day, I'm going to try the performance of either no Cat, or no muffler, and see how they work on the road (on the trail, I'm geared so low, a 20 HP engine would probably work fine).

For awhile now on my sami I've been running a 3 chamber Flowmaster 2.25" with great results. I have the Thorley header with a 2.5" Catco cat into the Flowmaster. Its practically a straight run out the back so it makes a good weekend project using a little welder, aluminized exhaust pipe pieces and a couple of clamps.
