Title: Tin Top Spare Tire Question? Need Help Please
Post by: pharoe7 on May 22, 2012, 09:49:56 AM
Hey guys this my first post, just bought an '87 Tin Top. I'm trying to keep the project budget down and I was wondering if anyone knows can the factory spare tire holder on the rear door maintain the weight of a 15x8 steel wheel with a 30" tire. I know there is an aftermarket number that has a tire arm but it's over $500. If anyone has had experience with there larger tire on the factory holder with no issues over time to the hinges please let me know. I have to make a decision on purchasing a rear bumper and if I'm going to keep a spare on the back.

Thanks,

pharoe

Mine's holding a powder coated stock rim with 30" MTR's no problem (just don't get slammed by the door).

I have a 235/75R15 on 8" steel wheel on mine and holds just fine.
