Title: ring and pinion gears
Post by: DMzuk on June 04, 2012, 07:46:50 PM
Hi my name is Danny and i have a tin top samurai and a soft top samurai. they are both 87s and i was wondering if there is a stock gear difference between the two. to my knowledge they have the stock ring and pinion gears in them but one of them has a locker in it and i was wanting to switch the 3rd member over to the other one. if anybody can help i would greatly appreciate it.
 Thanks for you time.

They will both have 3.727 (3.73) axle gears....assuming no one has swapped them out for non-stock ones.
If nothing else, when you pull the thirds, count the number of teeth on the ring gear and divide that by the number of teeth on the pinion gear, that will give you the ratio.  Make sure they both match and you'll be good to go.
